Feds: Biogen, Shire using tactics to thwart generics

Federal drug regulators identified dozens of drug companies they say have used tactics to try to prevent generic versions of their drugs from being produced, including two of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in Massachusetts, in an effort the FDA says contributes to high drug prices. “No patients should be priced out of medicines they need to support their health,” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in a statement. “A path to securing samples of brand drugs for the purpose of generic drug development should always be available.”
