WASHINGTON - Rob Porter, who resigned as President Donald Trump's staff secretary following allegations of spousal abuse, was one of as many as two dozen senior White House officials, including the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who hold interim security clearances.
Kushner is still working without a permanent security clearance, according to an administration official familiar the process but not authorized to discuss it publicly.
Interim clearances are routinely issued - some because of a massive government backlog of hundreds of thousands of security clearance reviews.

Rob Porter, the former White House staff secretary, met quietly with reporters last week to explain his side of allegations that he abused his two ex-wives.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reportedly arranged the meeting after photos surfaced of Porter's ex-wife with a black eye.
Porter told the reporters that his ex-wife had received the black eye from a fall following an argument they had over a Venetian glass vase, according to Politico.

"Fox & Friends" host Brian Kilmeade has been uncharacteristically hostile toward President Donald Trump over the last two days regarding the White House's response to the resignation of former staff secretary Rob Porter, who has been accused of domestic abuse.
Referring to the White House's reliance on the FBI's background check system, Kilmeade told a White House spokesperson on Tuesday, "You relied upon it and you got burned."
