Unemployment In Minnesota Remained At 4% In June; 1st Month Of Job Losses Recorded This Year

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota's unemployment rate held steady at 4% in June as the state recorded its first month of job losses since December.
The Minnesota Department of Employment of Economic Development reported the new numbers Thursday, explaining that the state lost 600 jobs last month on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Officials cautioned that growth has been uneven as the state recovers from the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, when looking at three-month averages, job growth was recorded in each period this year, even if the most recent period was up only 0.3%.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota is reporting 216 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, and two new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. This news comes as most states are reporting an upswing in new cases, including Minnesota.
The health department reports that the rolling average positivity rate is now at 1.6% , well below the threshold for increased caution, but clearly on an upward trend from when it was hovering near just 1% at the beginning of July.

MINNEAPOLIS - Drought conditions have worsened significantly across Minnesota in the last week, according to an update from the U.S. Drought Monitor .
The state is now experiencing “extreme” drought conditions. While it's a small area, about 4% of the state, it's the first time the state has experienced extreme conditions since April 2013.
Notably, although the drought map was released on Thursday, it was created before Wednesday's rainfall. It includes rain that fell through 8 a.m. Tuesday.
