FBI report says anti-Trump texts 'cast a cloud' over probe

4 monthes ago   |   By

WASHINGTON - As the FBI investigated both candidates running for president in 2016, two FBI employees exchanged thousands of personal texts and messages that included a running political commentary - including newly released messages in which one of them expressed a desire to "stop" the election of Donald Trump.
In a highly anticipated report released Thursday, the Justice Department's internal watchdog said those messages sullied the FBI's reputation and "cast a cloud" over its investigation into Democrat Hillary Clinton's emails, even if they did not affect the investigation itself.

WASHINGTON - The Justice Department inspector general on Thursday castigated former FBI Director James Comey for his actions during the Hillary Clinton email investigation and found that other senior bureau officials showed a “willingness to take official action” to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president.
The 500-page report, which documents major missteps in one of the most politically charged cases in the FBI's history, provides the most exhaustive account to date of bureau and Justice Department decision-making throughout the investigation of Clinton's use of a private email...

Watchdog report blasts FBI but doesn't hand Trump total win

4 monthes ago   |   By

WASHINGTON - An inspector general report condemning the FBI's actions in the Hillary Clinton email investigation blasts former FBI Director James Comey but also denies total vindication to the president who fired him.
The 500-page document stops far short of endorsing the attacks levied at Comey for the last year by President Donald Trump.
Although Trump has alleged that a politically tainted FBI tried to undermine his Republican campaign, the report found nothing to suggest that political preferences influenced how the investigation was conducted.
Trump has suggested anyone less...

Unread October

Was the FBI biased against Donald Trump in 2016? Trump and his supporters think so, and now they have fresh evidence: a 500-page report on the Hillary Clinton email investigation, prepared by the Justice Department's inspector general. The report includes text messages in which two then-FBI officials, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, spoke of “stopping” Trump. On the other hand, the report concluded: “We found no evidence that the conclusions by Department prosecutors were affected by bias or other improper considerations.”
