Jason Van Dyke to be released from prison next month

Jason Van Dyke, the former Chicago police officer convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal 2014 shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, will be released from prison next month, according to state prison records obtained by WGN Investigates.
The Illinois Prisoner Review Board - the body that handles parole for Illinois inmates - granted Van Dyke's release in September 2021, records show.
Van Dyke's mandatory supervised release date was listed as Feb. 8, 2022, though the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday that Van Dyke's release would take place on Feb. 3.

In body camera video released Friday, Fayetteville police interview witnesses to try and figure out what led to the shooting last Saturday of Jason Walker. Two witnesses, a man and a woman, told officers they saw Walker jump onto the hood of a truck driven by Lt. Jeffrey Hash before Hash exited the truck and shot Walker.
