The fate of hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants who arrived in the US as children will be on the line Tuesday, when the Supreme Court hears arguments on the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
President Donald Trump called in 2017 for DACA to be undone, but has been stymied by lower courts that have allowed renewals to continue as the appeals process plays out. SCOTUS is hearing arguments in a group of cases this morning that could decide the fate of the Obama-era program, which was put in place in 2012 over the objection of Republicans, who have called it an illegal use of executive power. Supporters of the policy - formally known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals - say it merely codified the president's existing power to set enforcement priorities.
