Illinois reports 11,682 new cases of COVID-19, 39 deaths over past week

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Department of Public Health reported Friday 11,682 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 39 additional deaths since reporting last Friday.
More than 74% of Illinois adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and more than 58% of Illinois adults are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
IDPH is reporting a total of 1,419,611 cases, including 23,440 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois.

In another dispiriting setback for the nation's efforts to stamp out the coronavirus, scientists who studied a big COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts concluded that vaccinated people who got so-called breakthrough infections carried about the same amount of the coronavirus as those who did not get the shots.

The Centers for Disease Control's limited tracking of Covid-19 cases in vaccinated people is hindering public health officials' attempts to stem the nationwide surge of the highly transmissible Delta variant.
The agency said in May that it would stop routinely tracking so-called breakthrough infections that didn't lead to hospitalization or death. COVID-19 In MN: Health Officials Report 700+ Additional Virus Cases, 5 More Deaths

MINNEAPOLIS - As the state begins offering vaccination incentives worth $100 , Minnesota health officials reported on Friday 702 additional virus cases and five more deaths attributed to COVID-19.
The Minnesota Department of Health updated its COVID-19 data Friday. In total, 612,701 cases of COVID-19 and 7,668 deaths have been reported in the state since the pandemic began. Over 33,000 people have been hospitalized with the virus. Over 601,00 people have recovered enough to not need to isolate themselves.
