New York City Just Removed a Statue of Surgeon J. Marion Sims From Central Park. Here's Why

A statue of the surgeon J. Marion Sims was removed from its pedestal bordering New York City's Central Park on Tuesday, after calls for its removal peaked in the summer of 2017. The city's Public Design Commission voted Monday to remove the Sims statue, and on Tuesday the statue was taken down ; the city plans to move it to the cemetery where Sims is buried.

MTV's Video Music Awards are heading back to New York

NEW YORK - After spending a year in California, the MTV Video Music Awards are coming back to the East Coast. The network announced Tuesday that the 2018 VMAs will be held Aug. 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Last year's ceremony was held in Inglewood, California, and the year before it was at New York's Madison Square Garden. Radio City Music Hall was the home of the inaugural VMAs in 1984.
