The Senate's top Republican appeared Tuesday to quash new momentum behind a bill giving special counsels such as Robert Mueller III legal recourse if they are fired, telling Fox News that he would refuse to put it to a floor vote. McConnell dismisses GOP efforts to protect Mueller

Mitch McConnell is just saying no. There will be no Senate vote on protecting special counsel Robert Mueller, no vote on clawing back billions from a new spending law and probably no vote on a war authorization, the Senate majority leader said on Tuesday. Even as the Senate Judiciary Committee is set to advance a bill that would shield the special counsel from removal by President Donald Trump's administration, McConnell says it won't ever see the Senate floor. The Senate majority leader said on Tuesday that the bill is "not necessary" and that Trump would never sign it. And though...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he has no intention to allow a vote on a bill to protect the special counsel Robert Mueller from being fired by President Donald Trump.

The majority leader has previously waved off the effort and said he didn't think Mueller needed to be protected. He made his position abundantly clear on Tuesday: "I'm the one who decides what we...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that there was no way he would entertain legislation that would prevent President Donald Trump from firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
Speaking with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, McConnell said that such a measure is “not necessary” - despite an increasing bipartisan push to bring such legislation forward.
“There's no indication that Mueller's going to be fired, I don't think the president's going to do that,” he said. “Just as a practical matter even if we passed it why would we sign it.”
Last week the Special Counsel and Integrity Act was...
